Algeria, 1997. The country is in the hands of groups that seek to establish the Islamic state. Women are the ones who are most affected by the new laws, with which leaders seek to control their bodies and the way they behave. In this environment, the young student Nedjma dreams of becoming a fashion designer, so, despite the political situation that surrounds her, she will fight for her freedom by organizing a fashion show that defies taboos. From a feminist perspective and inspired by her own experiences, in her first feature film the director Mounia Meddour recreates the climate of violence and oppression that was lived in Algeria, sunk in a civil war that lasted until the new millennium.
