Description
Alma and her children are killed in the armed conflict in Guatemala. 30 years later, the trial is reopened against Enrique, a retired general who was at the forefront of the genocide, but is quickly acquitted. While the demonstrations in search of justice are unleashed, the spirit of La Llorona is released to torment the soldier and his family. Jayro Bustamante closes his Trilogy of Contempt, reimagining the famous Latin American legend to examine the massacre against the Mayan Ixil community during the Guatemalan civil war. Invoking narrative devices of terror and fantasy, La Llorona transits between reality and myth to engender a terrifying piece of political horror.
