Synopsis:

On one night in the late 19th century, the life of 14-year-old Lise changes forever. She is the oldest child and the first in her family to go to school, so she is full of hope and confidence. But when her mother goes into labor, something seems to be wrong. As night falls and labor progresses, Lise begins to realize that her day could end with her becoming the head of the house. Told over 24 hours on a farm, Tea Lindeburg's feature debut questions the power of patriarchy over women, the dangers of religious fundamentalism and repressive customs at a time when the passage from childhood to adulthood was blunt.
