Herlin Riley. Since coming of age in the nurturing environment of a highly musical family and a distinguished lineage of drummers, New Orleans native Herlin Riley emerged from the more rhythmic era of the late 1970s and early 1980s, accompanying influential and demanding improvisational ensembles such as pianist Ahmad Jamal and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis with his commanding yet elegant rhythmic presence. Maestro Riley was a drummer for Jazz at Lincoln Center from 1992 to 2004. His solid melodic percussion style is deeply imbued with the fertile creative soil of the Crescent City, spanning the length and breadth of the current musical spectrum in the United States.
